In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
The Universe is a strange place. A place that we really don’t know much about. We tend to focus our thoughts on the smaller picture, which is our lovely Earth. People really couldn’t care less about what goes on outside of our atmosphere. Why should they? Humans can keep their heads stuck in the clouds and be just as content as the scientists striving to make sense of things. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, if you find yourself becoming a little curious, the Universe is home to some very strange things and ideas that may just tickle your fancy.
I’m going to toss a few neat ideas your way, but I must issue a disclaimer first. The human brain tends to get overwhelmed and experience stress when a simple thought becomes too emotionally provoking. If this begins to happen, just remember, DON’T PANIC. Just grab a clean glass, fill it up with milk, and drink up. I have no clue what effect this will have, but milk is just a fantastic drink. I think we can all agree on that.
Identical Copies, Is there another you out there?
We have all heard of “parallel universes.” Well, it’s time we broke it down and talked about it. First, I am going to need you to change your perspective. We tend to think in terms of only our Universe. Well, it is officially time to change that. It is time to realize that there must exist something behind the sheet of our Universe. Probably something scary and delightful. Now that the proper mindset has been established by two poorly formed sentences, let’s dive in. We know the Universe is expanding outwards into the infinity. The most popular explanation of this is the theory of the Big Bang. But, THAT STILL DOESN’T EXPLAIN WHY THIS SHEET OF PLANETS AND STARS AND BLACK NOTHINGNESS AND HUMANS AND PUPPIES IS EXPANDING OUTWARDS INTO EVERYTHING!!!! Alright, sorry, I’m calm. This rapid expansion is thought to happen because of a quantum field called cosmic inflation. *insert mysterious music* This cosmic inflation is a magical force pushing outward in all directions. Here is the really super-duper part. As with most things we know of, this inflation tends to decay and slow down. As it does, bubbles are formed.
Now a new Universe has been created. Yes, I said it. These bubbles, infinite bubbles, are what cosmologists believe a Universe is. If so, there are too many Universes in existence to even speak of. Each of these bubbles is complete with its own set of laws of physics and forms of matter. Due to the term infinite and what we know about the laws of probability, it has been determined that there are an endless supply of things like you out there, living a completely different lifestyle in their own bubble, and abiding by a completely different set of laws and lifestyles. Isn’t that interesting?
When you get the time, go outside at night and look to the stars. Know that although you may not see it, there is probably a multitude of humans that look like you staring right back in your direction. Sure, they might be outside of our Universe, whatever the hell that means, but doesn’t it instill some sense of wonder in you? Who knows what could happen. Science is advancing at an exponential rate in our lifetime. Maybe we are just lucky. Maybe….just maybe…this luck will lead to us meeting an alternate us. If so, you must remember, don’t panic.
All you really need to know for the moment is that the universe is a lot more complicated than you might think, even if you start from a position of thinking it’s pretty damn complicated in the first place.
